What is the best way to improve my Emachines t5234 performance? Video card or RAM?

Would it be better to increase the RAM to max 2gb? or an upgrade for the video card? I want to be able to run Sims 3 smoothly without spending too much money. Im not looking for top performance, just enough to run and enjoy the game.

I have an AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core Processor 4000+

2.1 Ghz 894 MB

Nvidia GeForce 6150SE

Vista

This will give you a better understanding of the specific upgrades you will need to run it.

--------------------------------------…

Priority I would say RAM. It will be cheaper and improve your system and you will actually notice it. I personally wouldn't run Vista on anything lower than 3 gigs of Ram considering it is kind of a system resource hog. Also to boost some Vista performance click here.

It is called ready boost and it simulates RAM using a Flash card. It is pretty much advanced virtual memory.

Video Card:

All a video card is a graphical possessor for graphical needs. Such as

Video or visual Rendering

Games

High End science programs

Obviously Most people just use it for games, or because they want numerous screens. You might have to upgrade the video card also.

Make sure you get the latest Driver update for your video card! This will also help the performance!

--------------------------------------…|||You need more RAM.|||You can't run the sims 3, you need a 2.4 ghz processor speed. And right now you would definitely want to max out your ram especially with vista|||I would think the RAM. Vista really does need at least 2 gb to run, but 4 is better. Also, you could upgrade your processor. I don't think the Sims is that big on graphics, so it should be alright.|||Go with the ram. 1GB is barely enough to run Vista alone.

Since all the Sims games are more CPU intensive rather than GPU intensive, I'd rule out the GPU upgrade.|||You can simply upgrade the RAM to perhaps 3-4GB (2GB on vista is.. not really good) for optimal enjoyment of the game :)..

Also, you can upgrade your video card to something cheap, like an ATI Radeon 4350 or 4550, which is most probably better than your current one, and is quite cheap ($70-80 Singapore $).|||RAM will help your computer run faster in general. Allowing programs to run smoother. A video card will allow you to play high-res games, at a better quality.

I would go with RAM first if the game looks OK, and then a video card if it still is choppy.
